Differences between 3.52 M33-4 and 3.71 M33

Before you rush to update to the latest custom firmware available, 3.71 M33, take some time to read this comparison between 3.52 M33-4 and 3.71 M33.

Note: This is more applicable to those owners of the old PSP. For those with the PSP Slim and already on 3.60 M33, you might as well update as there is not much difference between 3.60 M33 and 3.71 M33.

3.52 M33-4
  • Only for the old PSP
  • Can play games that require up to firmware 3.52
  • Custom XMB themes available, everything can be customized
  • 1.50 kernel still available, old homebrew still work fine
  • Most plugins working
3.71 M33
  • For both the old PSP and the PSP Slim
  • Can play games that require up to firmware 3.71
  • Custom XMB themes available, but not everything can be customized
  • 1.50 kernel replaced by 3.xx kernel, old homebrew may be broken
  • Most plugins broken
Both custom firmwares have their plus points and their minus points, so it's really up to what you want from your PSP. Personally, I love my custom XMB theme, as well as some of my homebrew, so I'm going to stick it out with 3.52 M33-4. Besides, 3.52 M33-4 still runs all PSP games as of now. Perhaps I will update to 3.71 M33 in the future only when a new game is released that requires a firmware higher than 3.52.
