Unbrick/Downgrade your PSP/PSP Slim

The PSP scene is moving slowly these days, so don't expect updates anytime soon. As for me, the PSP phase is mostly over.

Hence, free unbricking/downgrading of PSP/PSP Slims at my convenience. This means only on weekday evenings near my house. Do email if you are interested. Of course if you are going to give me a donation I wouldn't say no, lol.

Yay for the PSP =).

Shift

This site will now focus more on homebrew and less on PSP games and custom themes. The site description - Maximizing the potential of your Sony PlayStation Portable - has been changed to reflect this shift.

Not to mention the occasional post on online income, which is really more of a fun thing than a real way to make money. Currently I'm promoting EmailCashPro and Bux.to =)

You know what? Let's get this site moving again. Detractors can continue with whatever they want to do on my Cbox.

A big thanks to michael, you moved me to get this site up and running again. Nice meeting you =).

Update

281007 0004

Refer to the following post:

Now see (removed)
DivX, 788kbps/44100Hz 705kbps
Maximum quality of the video has not been determined, but it's probably lower than 788kbps.
Update: Narrowed it down to between 500-2000 kbps, more trial-and-error to follow.

For more information on this, refer to my updated post here.

Official Apology

Hi guys.

I offer my sincerest apologies over the recent fiasco.

Yes, this blog was started with the honest intention of bringing my knowledge to as many PSP users out there. The PSP does have a lot of hidden potential, mostly because of Sony's official firmware. Most people I saw only used custom firmware because of the ability to play downloaded games. They never knew about homebrew, or bothered to explore what custom firmware could do for the PSP.

With custom firmware, the PSP was more than just a gaming device with music and video capabilities. In a certain sense, the PSP was a mini PDA. It had a 333Mhz processor, which was pretty decent, and approximately 24MB of RAM (not to be confused with its flash). With homebrew like Filer, PSPoste, AFKIM, and many more, the PSP was able to do much more than most people could imagine.

Of course, slowly I drifted towards providing downgrading and unbricking for a fee. It began to overshadow my original interest in the PSP, and soon my site was just a blatent advertisement for my PSP services. At some point in time, money became the driving factor behind my enthusiasm in the PSP.

One thing leads to another, and it ended up with the trading of fake batteries for original Sony PSP batteries, so that I could make Pandora sets to sell. On hindsight, it was a foolish thing to do, as the batteries would be exposed after a few days. The price I was offered for them was too good to be true, yet I did not do thorough quality checking on my part and offered them away immediately.

Regarding this issue, it has already been settled and all batteries have been returned to their original owners.

Let's talk about some sites that are taking my content word for word.

Initially it didn't feel good that someone was using my own words on their own site, but still I feel somewhat honored that their site would take my exact words and use it in their advertising, with due credits, of course. I will not stop them from using the words as long as a visible link back to this site is provided.

This site will cease operation until further notice. Thank you all for your support in the past and my deepest apologies for letting you down.

PSP Internal Camera Mod

Acidmods never ceases to amaze me. Check out this camera mod for the old PSP, done by Rex. The UMD drive had to be removed to make space for the camera lens though. External speakers were also added to improve the sound output of the PSP.

Best part? Rex is from Singapore :).

Just a note...

Dear all,

For the past 2 weeks I've been updating this site nearly everyday. I've been reading up on new stuff released, hoping to share it with all my readers. I've also racked my brains trying to put my knowledge down into simple instructions that can be understood by everyone. Unfortunately, this site is just starting to take up way too much time in my life.

So, I just want to say that maybe it's time I took some time to actually use my PSP, you know, like play games on it? Logan's Shadow is out, I've barely played it. So is Final Fantasy Tactics, although it sucks cos it's laggy, the PSX version is the same and much better. I'm only through Crisis Core halfway, and I've been stuck at Reims in Jeanne D'Arc since forever.

Updates are going to slow down, but I'll still be here to reply your emails, and to answer your questions in the little chat box on the right.

+1 for PSP :)

PSP Services Updated

PSP services are no longer advertised, but will still be provided. Interested people, please contact me via my email, which can be found on the right hand side of this page.

Due to too much competition, I've decided to update my PSP Services provided.

For $10, you can unbrick/downgrade your PSP and PSP Slim to the latest custom firmware. I will keep a backup of your flash + idStorage permanently as well, so that if you ever destroy your idStorage in the future, or you end up with a FULLY BRICKED PSP, there is a chance that I can help you restore it back to full functionality. If you get your set modded by someone else and you do eventually get a FULL BRICK, they're not going to be able to fix your PSP back to its original state.

What are idStorage keys?

It's a set of unique keys stored on your PSP's flash that store information on the PSP's hardware, like serial number, MAC address, PSP Region code, UMD reader, type of motherboard, adhoc, wifi, Magicgate, brightness levels etc. If this is corrupted, any of these things listed could potentially be broken permanently. The only one so far who can fix your idStorage is Sony, as a method for idStorage key regeneration is still under research. So you could end up with a working PSP, but a broken UMD drive. And replacing a new UMD drive isn't going to fix it, cos it's a software problem. It's just like replacing a new CD drive, but without fixing the drivers.

What's a fully bricked PSP? I thought Dark_Alex's universal unbricker can unbrick all PSPs?

You're wrong. If the flash1 nand partitioning on the PSP is destroyed, even Dark_Alex's Despertar del Cementerio won't be able to save your PSP. There have been people who were faced with never ending BSODs, and due to the flash1 problem, were also unable to run the unbricker to fix their PSP.

Insurance for your PSP, plus low price. Interested, please send your queries to my Gmail account, shown on the right hand side of the page.

ps: the wordings in this post were first found on this site.

Despertar del Cemeterio, aka Universal Unbricker, isn't that Universal after all.

Send me an email if you want to meet up for unbricking/downgrading, or if you need any help with the PSP or PSP Slim. All emails will be replied within 24 hours. Meet-ups only applicable in Singapore, while online help is open to all.

Cheers!

Site Updates

Time for my weekend updates, as promised.

Firstly, file archive is now up. I have gone with MediaFire for my file hosting.

Secondly, as promised the guide on custom theme installation on 3.52 M33-4 will be up by today. I will be changing my PSP theme as well. Applecor has gotten boring.

Thirdly, if you like my site, please support me and take the time to check out EmailCashPro, the first Paid to Read program to originate from Singapore, and which has now gone international, so people from all over the world can join this great program.

Thanks!

Things To Come

I'm going to be busy over the next three days so any updates are going to have to wait until the weekend. I'll only cover the release of the Slim Unbricker, which I believe is going to be out by this weekend as Dark_Alex said he will be releasing it in a few days time.

Here are some things that I plan to put up on my blog during this weekend update:
  • Installation of a custom theme on 3.52 M33-4
  • Sharing some homebrew applications
  • Other random stuff
If you have anything that you want me to post about, please leave your comments and I'll try to put it up as soon as possible!

Cheers :)

Successful Launch of Doody's PSP Site

This marks the end of the first official day of operation for Doody's PSP Site. I've put up quite a bit of information in only one evening, so any more information will have to wait until tomorrow.

To my visitors, please bookmark my site and watch out for future updates! :)

Good Night.

Currently I am using the AppleCor theme by Team Inacor. This is a Mac-based theme with a Mac-style dock at the bottom of the screen. Sounds are also fully customized. Check out the fully skinned OSK with iPhone sounds, as well as the 12 available theme colours.

Screenshots and the GIF video were taken using SVCapture v0.5, probably one of the better screenshot plugins available for custom firmware. This plugin works in-game as well, which is how I got my screenshots of Crisis Core.

First Post

Hello and welcome to my new PSP site! Fed up with the low standard of information being offered on local forums, I've decided to come up with this site to share the latest information with everyone in Singapore who owns a PSP.

I will update my site regularly with stuff like the latest PSP games, good homebrew for your PSP, hot custom themes... basically everything to do with PSP software. I might also decide to put in some hardware, like PSP accessories, but that will be decided at a later date.

If you have any suggestions on how I can improve my site, please feel free to drop me a comment here or send me an email. I'll be very grateful for your help!

So hang on, this site will be ready in a few days time! :)
